Best Hotels & Areas in South Africa
Choosing where to stay in South Africa can truly shape your entire experience—and after travelling through this incredible country, I can honestly say that every region offers something completely unique.
From vibrant coastal living in Cape Town to unforgettable safari lodges and peaceful nature escapes, here are my personal recommendations on where to stay in South Africa.

Cape Town – Best Area & Hotel
One of the best places to base yourself in Cape Town is Sea Point—and it quickly became one of my favourite areas.
This vibrant coastal neighbourhood has such a special atmosphere. Think ocean views, palm-lined promenades, morning runs by the sea, and the most beautiful sunsets.
It’s also perfectly located—just a short drive from: V&A Waterfront, Clifton & Camps Bay beaches and Table Mountain.
Where I Recommend Staying: The Tropicana Hotel
This is a great option if you’re looking for a stylish and well-located stay in Cape Town. It’s close to the promenade, which makes it perfect for morning walks or bike rides along the coast.
Why stay here:
- Amazing location in Sea Point
- Close to top attractions
- Relaxed but trendy vibe

Kruger Area – Safari Stay
Staying near Kruger National Park is all about the experience—and waking up surrounded by nature is something you’ll never forget.
Where I Recommend Staying: Muluwa Lodge
This lodge offers breathtaking views over the surrounding landscape and is the perfect base for safari adventures.
Why stay here:
- Incredible panoramic views
- Peaceful, nature-focused setting
- Easy access to game drives

Addo Elephant Park Area
If you’re visiting Addo, I highly recommend staying somewhere peaceful, surrounded by nature.
Where I Recommend Staying: Longhill Reserve
This is such a calm and beautiful place to stay—perfect if you want to disconnect and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Why stay here:
- Quiet and relaxing atmosphere
- Close to Addo Elephant Park
- Ideal for a slower, nature-focused stay

Garden Route – Most Scenic Stays
The Garden Route is honestly one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa—dramatic coastlines, forests, and charming towns.
You’ll find so many stunning places to stay here, but these were my favourites:
The Fernery Lodge
Set in a truly unique location surrounded by nature, this lodge feels like a hidden gem.
Why stay here:
- Incredible natural surroundings
- Peaceful and secluded
- Perfect for relaxing after road trip days

Ocean Watch Guest House
This place is all about the views—waking up overlooking the bay is something really special.
Why stay here:
- Stunning ocean views
- Great location for exploring the area
- Cozy and welcoming atmosphere

Welgeluk Feather Palace
This stay was such a unique experience. This historic mansion dates back to the early 1900s, during the ostrich feather boom—when feathers were one of the most fashionable luxury items in the world.
Staying here honestly felt like stepping back in time in the most beautiful way.
But what truly made this place unforgettable wasn’t just the property—it was the owners 🤍
They are some of the kindest, most welcoming people we met during our trip. They even put on a little show for us and showed us how to open an ostrich egg (yes—we tried ostrich scrambled eggs!). On top of that, they gave us the best local recommendations—from food spots to scenic routes—which made our stay even more special.
Why stay here:
- Rich history and character
- Unique, one-of-a-kind experience
- Beautiful architecture and setting

Final Thoughts
South Africa has such an incredible variety of places to stay—from coastal apartments to luxury lodges and historic mansions.
If I had to recommend:
- 🌴 Cape Town → Sea Point for location & lifestyle
- 🐘 Safari → Stay close to nature (like Muluwa Lodge)
- 🌊 Garden Route → Mix of ocean views + unique stays
No matter where you stay, South Africa will absolutely surprise you 🤍
