The Ultimate 7-Day New York City Itinerary

Day 1: Midtown Icons & Times Square Magic

Start your first day in the heart of Manhattan, exploring iconic NYC landmarks.

Fifth Avenue – Shop, window shop, or just take in the energy of this famous street.

Rockefeller Center – See the city from the iconic plaza and snap photos of its art deco architecture.

Radio City Music Hall – Step inside this legendary entertainment venue for a classic New York experience.

Times Square (night) – Experience the neon lights and buzzing energy. Nothing compares to Times Square glowing after dark — pure cinematic magic. And just when you think it can’t get any more surreal, at 11:57 PM everything shifts — “Midnight Moment” begins, and suddenly over 90 billboards sync into one giant piece of digital art. You can’t miss that!

Day 2: Hudson Yards, The High Line & Greenwich Village

Explore NYC from modern skyscrapers to charming streets in one perfect day.

Morning – Hudson Yards

The Edge Observation Deck – Step onto this sky-high platform for stunning city views. At 1,100 feet, it’s the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere — and yes, the glass floor will give you butterflies!

Vessel – Capture unique architecture and geometric patterns — perfect for photos. Designed by Thomas Heatherwick, this honeycomb-like structure has 154 interconnected flights of stairs — that’s 2,500 steps if you climb them all. Perfect for geometric shots.

The High Line – My favourite spot for a leisurely stroll. Built on a former elevated freight rail line, this park stretches 1.45 miles with gardens, art installations, and city views — a green escape above the streets.

Afternoon – Greenwich Village

Bleecker Street Pizza – Grab a slice at this iconic NYC pizza spot. Fun fact: they’ve been serving up classic New York pizza since 1929, and their secret sauce recipe is legendary.

Friends Apartment Building – Snap a photo at the famous building from the hit TV show. Located at the corner of Bedford and Grove Street, it wasn’t actually used for filming inside, but it’s instantly recognisable to any fan.

Sex and the City Spots – Walk around and discover spots from the beloved series — from Carrie’s apartment to the famous Magnolia Bakery stop. Many of these spots are real-life NYC gems you might have walked past without noticing.

Cornelia Street – One of those charming streets that just begs for lifestyle or travel photos. Cornelia Street is part of the historic Greenwich Village district, and its cobblestone charm has inspired countless artists, writers, and photographers.

Evening – Knicks Game

Catch a game at Madison Square Garden for that classic New York sports experience. Brooklyn Nets tickets at Barclays Center are usually cheaper—but the Knicks experience at Madison Square Garden is unbeatable. If you can only pick one, I highly recommend the Knicks.

Make sure you book your tickets in advance via official platforms like Ticketmaster—click below to check prices and availability for the best chance to enjoy this unique, true American experience.

Day 3: Classic Skyline Views & Midtown Architecture

Experience the best of New York City’s iconic skyscrapers, historic terminals, and art-filled streets.

Morning – Empire State Building

Start your day with panoramic city views from Empire State Building, one of NYC’s most famous landmarks. It was the tallest building in the world when it opened in 1931 and still gives you that classic skyline “wow” moment.

Midtown Icons

Rockefeller Center – This art deco masterpiece is more than just the famous ice rink. Did you know the Rockefeller Center complex has 19 buildings and its own underground concourse? Perfect for exploring and photos.

The Beam Experience – A unique Midtown activity for an elevated perspective of the city. Think of it as a fun way to step above the usual skyline views — a hidden gem.

Grand Central Area

Grand Central Terminal – Marvel at the stunning architecture and bustling energy. A must for any Gossip Girl fan!

Los Tacos No.1 – Grab an authentic NYC taco for a quick lunch. This tiny spot is ranked among the city’s best tacos — people line up around the block!

Magnolia Bakery – Don’t miss the iconic cupcakes — a sweet NYC treat and also the famous banana pudding — it’s so amazing we went multiple times!

Chrysler Building – Snap photos of this iconic skyscraper with its stunning art deco details.

Tudor City Bridge – A hidden gem for quiet city views and photo opportunities.

Afternoon – Museum & Park

Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) – Explore world-class modern and contemporary art. MoMA was the first museum to embrace modern art in the U.S., with iconic pieces by Van Gogh, Warhol, and Picasso.

Bryant Park – Take a break in this Midtown oasis — perfect for photos with the surrounding skyscrapers.

Sunset – SUMMIT One Vanderbilt

End your day at SUMMIT One Vanderbilt for sunset views over Manhattan. This immersive observation deck combines glass floors, mirrors, and art installations for a one-of-a-kind skyline experience.

Pro Tip: Visit one observation deck during daylight and another at sunset for completely different vibes.

Day 4: Statue of Liberty & Lower Manhattan

Dive into New York City’s historic and iconic landmarks in Lower Manhattan.

Morning – Statue of Liberty & One World Trade Center

Statue of Liberty (Crown Access) – Step inside this iconic landmark and capture stunning views from the crown. The crown has 162 narrow steps and only a limited number of tickets are released months in advance — it’s totally worth planning ahead.

One World Trade Center – Admire Manhattan’s tallest building and its sleek modern design. Did you know it stands at 1,776 feet, a symbolic nod to the year of American independence?

One World Observatory – Take in breathtaking panoramic views of the city and harbor.

Financial District

Oculus – Marvel at the futuristic architecture of this transportation hub and shopping space. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, it’s meant to resemble a bird taking flight — incredible for photos.

Wall Street – Explore the heart of New York’s financial district. This iconic street has been the epicenter of American finance since the 18th century — history and hustle all in one stroll.

Charging Bull & Fearless Girl – Snap iconic photos with these legendary NYC statues.

Tip: This day is packed with history, emotion, and iconic photo opportunities — perfect for capturing the essence of NYC.

Day 5: Central Park & Museum Day

Take a slower, more romantic pace today, exploring iconic museums and NYC’s most beautiful green spaces.

Morning – American Museum of Natural History

Discover fascinating exhibits, from dinosaurs to space exploration, at this world-famous museum. The museum’s fossil halls have some of the most complete dinosaur skeletons in the world — it’s basically a childhood dream come true for any science lover. Pro tip: avoid rainy days if you can — the queues can get really long, we waited 2 hours before getting in!

Afternoon – Central Park & Upper East Side

Central Park Walk – Stroll through leafy paths, picturesque bridges, and iconic landmarks like Bow Bridge or Bethesda Terrace. Fun fact: Central Park is larger than Monaco, a secret that makes exploring it feel like a mini-adventure.

Upper East Side Stroll – Enjoy charming streets, elegant brownstones, and boutique cafés. This area has long been home to New York’s elite, giving you a peek at the city’s most stylish neighborhoods.

Choose One Museum

  • Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) – Step onto the grand staircases, enjoy rooftop views over the city, and explore world-class art spanning 5,000 years. The Met’s collection has over two million works — you could spend weeks and still not see it all.
  • Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum – Famous for its unique spiral architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Guggenheim is home to incredible modern and contemporary masterpieces. Even the building itself is considered a work of art, making it a must-see for design lovers.

Tip: Perfect day for lifestyle photos, architecture shots, and relaxing NYC vibes.

Day 6: Brooklyn, SoHo & Broadway

Explore trendy neighborhoods, delicious food spots, and iconic NYC views.

Morning – SoHo, Chinatown & Little Italy

SoHo Shopping – Browse chic boutiques and capture the neighbourhood’s cobblestone streets. SoHo’s cast-iron architecture makes it one of the most photographed neighborhoods in NYC.

Chinatown & Little Italy – Experience vibrant culture, colourful streets, and authentic cuisine. Little Italy’s Mulberry Street hosts one of the city’s oldest Italian festivals every September, full of music, food, and tradition.

Katz’s Delicatessen – Stop at this legendary deli for a classic pastrami sandwich. Katz’s has been serving sandwiches since 1888, and yes, that famous “I’ll have what she’s having” scene from When Harry Met Sally was filmed here.

Afternoon – Brooklyn Adventures

Brooklyn Bridge Walk – Walk or bike across this iconic bridge for breathtaking Manhattan skyline shots. When it opened in 1883, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world — still awe-inspiring today.

DUMBO – Explore this trendy neighbourhood, perfect for photos with the Manhattan Bridge backdrop. DUMBO stands for “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass”.

Juliana’s Pizza & Time Out Market – Grab a slice at Juliana’s or enjoy diverse eats at the Time Out Market.

Evening – Broadway Show

End your day with the magic of a Broadway performance. I highly recommend Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for every Harry Potter fan — the special effects are absolutely incredible and make you feel like you’ve stepped right into the wizarding world.

Day 7: Helicopter Views & Final NYC Moments

Finish your trip with unforgettable aerial views, iconic rides, and last-minute shopping.

New York travel FAQs

Is 4 days enough in NYC?

Yes, 4 days in New York City is enough to see major highlights like the Statue of Liberty, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, explore Central Park, and enjoy views from Top of the Rock.

However, if you want to explore neighbourhoods like SoHo and Brooklyn at a slower pace, 7 days gives a more relaxed experience.

Is NYC safe for tourists?

Yes, New York City is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular areas like Midtown, SoHo, DUMBO, and the Upper East Side.

Like in any big city, it’s best to stay aware of your surroundings, keep valuables secure in crowded places, and avoid empty subway cars late at night. Most visitors feel comfortable exploring busy neighbourhoods, even in the evening.

Best time to visit New York?

The best time to visit New York City is spring (April–June) and fall (September–October), when the weather is pleasant and perfect for exploring the city on foot.

Summer can be hot and humid, while December is festive with Christmas decorations and holiday markets, but it’s also the busiest and most expensive time to visit. Late April, May, and early October are often considered the ideal months.

How much money do you need per day?

New York can be expensive, but your daily budget depends on your travel style.

Budget: $100–150 per day (hostel or budget stay, subway, casual meals)

Mid-range: $200–350 per day (3–4 star hotel, attractions, restaurants)

Luxury: $500+ per day (boutique hotels, rooftop bars, premium experiences)

Accommodation is usually the biggest expense, followed by attractions and dining, so booking in advance can help secure better prices.

How to Get Around New York City as a Tourist?

The best way to get around New York City is by walking and using the New York City Subway, which runs 24 hours and connects major attractions like Times Square, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge.

It’s affordable, efficient, and usually faster than taxis during busy hours. Renting a car isn’t necessary.

What Should You Book in Advance in NYC?

If you’re visiting New York City for the first time, it’s best to book popular attractions in advance, such as the Statue of Liberty, Top of the Rock, SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, and Broadway shows.

Booking early helps secure your preferred time and can often save money, especially during busy seasons.

Hotels should also be reserved early — especially in spring, fall, and December — as prices increase quickly in high season.
